I’m having a Winning Summer, so I Want to Spread the Lurve

Published by at 7:27 am under Cool Stuff,Products

First of all, my Children’s Theatre Co. Zip Zap Zing was launched this summer with a six week camp. I wanted to start small and build slowly, since I am still a mom with 2 young kids and very little expendable income – but somehow I was lucky enough to have a very successful start to my business! Of the 2 camp classes I offered, one was at capacity, and the other was almost at half (and since the kids in that class are only 3-4 years old, it actually worked out MUCH better that way). Let’s hope my luck continues as I set up for fall enrollment.

Then, the SmartBitches (with the help of Sony and Harlequin) put a call out for people to “apply” to be a test driver for an e-reader this summer. If you’ve looked around this here site lately, you’ve probably figured out Iz got lucky there too. Having that reader has been made of so much awesome; I use it when I take the baby for walks, and my walks are getting so much longer that I’m finally getting off that hated plateau and starting to lose weight again – so extra Win!

And this morning, I wake up to discover I haz won again! Yesterday’s blog post about the Saving the Contemporary campaign was also a contest entry in disguise – and woohoo! I scored myself some sweet stuff. Since Lil’ G was born I have only enjoyed a soak in my whirlpool tub once…she’s 14 months old now – so really, when my prize arrives I am locking that bathroom door and having a bubble bath/reading bonanza.

So, I’m having a good summer. A truly lucky and fun summer. I want my luck to keep rolling, so I know the best way to do that is pay it forward – so I iz going to offer a prize, and since it’s the Bitches who have been so fundamental in making my summer awesome, I’m sharing the love with them as well (I’m cool like that). The prize of my contest: a copy of the Bitches Bitchn’ book: Beyond Heaving Bosoms

My contemporary post took  note of the WTF titles that have kept me far far away from reading one for so long. To win: simply tell me what was the most ridiculous contemporary romance novel title you have ever come across (preferably, one that you ended up reading and LOVED, but not necessarily).

Contest open until Midnight (central time) on Friday August 7th. The winner will be chosen by my 6 year old, Miss A – who will pick a number at random.

If you already own the Bosoms, good for you!, you can still enter; alternate prize will be a $15 gift card to the bookseller of your choice.

Winner announced sometime on Saturday.

And please – play fair – only one entry per person.

Those Smart Bitches are making a whole bunch of happy summers!

Great question – my answer would have to be that it was the contemps title that kept me away, it was the cover. The covers of Erin McCarthy’s made me think I would hate them. Jeans way too tight and really, a leather jacket with no shirt underneath? Not for me! But, when I read those books they were really great and the writing was excellent.

So you know the drill…Don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

Yay! Glad you’re having a fabulous summer – and thanks for paying it forward! :D

Hm… I have to admit I avoided “Ain’t She Sweet” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips for a while because… well *look* at the title. I think it was supposed to be something like “Crazy 4 U” – and thank goodness *that* was nixed.
Otherwise… while I love categories – especially harlequins, I admit there are a few titles that are *so bad* I can’t bring myself to read them.(I can’t think of any off the top of my head right now :X)

I am not big on contemporaries…I like to go back in time! :) But I have read a couple, one recently was the HQ Blaze book Slow Hands. Really? Are they slow cause he is old or just decrepit? I suppose if it would have been Lord Slow Hands or the Duke of Slow Hands I might have been more excited ;-) Anyway, read it since it was free, and it ended up being a good read. Very hot, and honestly I get a little excited by ambulance sirens now…

I’m not sure I’m remembering this right, but I think it was “The Billionaire Sheik.” Definitely a book that I read despite the title.

A Bed Of Sand (Silhouette Desire) by Laura Wright. The book was good but …a bed of sand? Sounds very uncomfortable.

Many titles could fit the bill, but the most ridiculous one I’ve heard lately is The Playboy Sheikh’s Virgin Stable-Girl by Sharon Kendrick I have not read it though.

I might as well give you a triple whammy from an anthology I liked titled ‘Taken by the Boss’ [Taken to a nice restaurant first or maybe just a drink, you hope]:
    – His Very Personal Assistant by Carole Mortimer [ok, emphasis mine. I hope the title makes things clear.]
    – In The Banker’s Bed by Cathy Williams [subtlety? this is subtle baby. It could've been Under The Banker.]
    – The Takeover Bid by Leigh Michaels [this one goes to the other side of the spectrum and sounds like the title on a memo. So, Clive, here're the details of the Takeover Bid, shall we go ahead? Or maybe it's just going from the 'Taken' theme. Well, yes, this novel does give a whole new meaning to Takeover.]

    Hi :)
Here’s one of the most ridiculous book titles for contemporary romance I’ve seen: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/series/seeing-double/covert-cootchie-cootchie-coo.htm

Pretty much anything on the HQ presents line has a funny title, they may be good, but a title like “The boss’s forbidden secretary” which is tame, just makes me think–”huh, forbidden, because they are supposed to be administrative assistants, or because he was supposed to fire them to cut costs?” Silly.

Well, first I’d offer up Christina Dodd’s series where the titles have nothing to do with the stories. In this case, I mean “Tongue in Chic” and “Thigh high”. The first book in the series, “Trouble in High Heels” is fine. I liked all of the stories in the series.

I’d also put up “Daddy Material” by Marcia Evanick. I love Marcia’s Misty Harbor series, but this is an earlier work that I haven’t worked up enough oomph for to even try reading it. I mean, it’s like, I want a baby so I’m going to pursue this man because he seems like he’d make a good father, who cares about his abilities in any other area.

Also, just wanted to mention that I finished reading Ain’t She Sweet by SEP about 2 days ago. Susan EP is a wonderful writer. I too had put off reading the book because the description was so awful and truthfully, I wasn’t really enjoying the book until about page 260. So, the story, eh, but the writing really carried you through it.

I happened to be on eHalequin.com today and saw this gem: The Tuscan Tycoon’s Pregnant Housekeeper. I believe it is in that same “Taken” series that you mentioned, Bhetti.

But I have found myself making some up titles that I WISH would find life – for example, The Alien Warlord’s Slave Warrior Bride (inspired by an episode of Stargate SG-1). Making up titles is so much fun!

How about anything with the word Virgin or Pregnant in it like “The Disobedient Virgin” or “The Improperly Pregnant Princess”. I like the alliteration on the second title but it makes me wonder exactly how she’s improperly pregnant. Is the baby not in her uterus?
